Get ready to discover the best beaches and coves along the Costa Blanca

Those that don’t believe in paradise haven’t had the opportunity to visit the Spanish Costa Blanca yet. With more than 170 beaches and coves spanning over 200 kilometres of coastline, the beauty of its natural surroundings is undeniable. The Costa Blanca also stands out for the quality of its beaches and coves, as this area holds the largest number of blue flag beaches in Spain, that equals a total of 84 beaches for 2019.

Thanks to the superb location of our Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort, right in the heart of the Costa Blanca, you will be able to live year-round in an idyllic setting that offers some of the most beautiful beaches and coves well within reach.

In Benitatxell, you’ll find the Cala Moraig, one of the most magical places along the Costa Blanca. One of the 84 blue flags flies here and there are also impressive natural landmarks, such as the Cova dels Arcs or the Morro Falquí, so you’ll be able to enjoy gorgeous picture postcard scenery every day.

In Teulada-Moraria, you will find the Cala del Portet, a small shell-shaped beach that you’ll never want to leave for the tranquility of its crystal waters and natural surroundings. Once there, don’t miss the Cap D’or peninsula watchtower, where you can admire the scenery and the flora that surround it. The water is shallow and very calm, making it a suitable place for the whole family.

Not far from the previously mentioned beach, you will find the stunning Cala de Barraca, also known as the Cala del Portixol. This small cove is known for its white fishermen’s homes. Likewise, its rocky landscape and crystal-clear waters give it the characteristic feel of a beach paradise. When you go up to the lookout point, you’ll be able to marvel at the incredible sea views and the Island of Porixol that will both leave you speechless.

In Calpe, about half an hour’s drive from Cumbre del Sol, you’ll find the lively beach of La Fossa, with its fine sand and splendid views of the Ifach rock, a true symbol of the Costa Blanca. Its waters are crystal clear, so you’ll be able to do underwater diving and observe the sea floor and rock formations below.

If you continue further along the Costa Blanca, you will reach the famous and picturesque town of Altea where the Cap Negret beach is located. This beach is situated in a quiet area where you can completely disconnect and allow yourself to be carried away by the sound of the waves lapping the shore. In addition, there are many activity options, ranging from peddling a pedalo to riding high on a flyboard, so a great time is guaranteed by all.

The Costa Blanca is surrounded by many natural gems, thanks to the quality of its waters and the incomparable beauty of its landscapes that you will so easily fall in love with. So, if you haven’t already discovered it, what are you waiting for?

The Vuelta a España returns to Cumbre del Sol on August 25th!

The Vuelta a España returns to Cumbre del Sol on August 25th!

If you love cycling, mark your calendar, because you have a special date at Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort on August 25th! The 176 cyclists competing in La Vuelta, Spain’s most prestigious cycling event, will be returning to Alto del Puig Llorença at Cumbre del Sol. The mountain pass will determine the final peloton before reaching the finish line, which will be in the town of Calpe.

This will be the third time that the race passes through Benitatxell, but unlike previous occasions, this time it will be a pass through and not a final stage, as was the case in 2015 and 2017. As such, Cumbre del Sol summit will be a key location in determining the outcome of the second stage of La Vuelta.

The organisation has indicated in the route book that the cyclists will be passing through Alto de Puig Llorença between 4:30 and 5:07 pm. Specifically, the three estimated times are as follows: if the peloton is cycling at 40 km/h, the expected arrival time will be 4:37 pm; if the speed is an intermediate 38 km/h, the ascent will begin at 4:51; and finally, if the average is the slowest, at 36 km/h, the cyclists would arrive at 5:07. The pace could turn out to be faster or slower, so we recommend that you get there with enough time to spare if you don’t want to miss anything!

In this stage profile, the Alto de Puig Llorença’s location, 24 km from the finish line, will reduce the size of the peloton, but not enough to stop the sprinters from competing for a victory in Calpe.

La Vuelta 2019 looks to have interesting participation, even though the last two winners at Cumbre del Sol are off sick due to injuries: the Dutchman, Tom Dumoulin, in 2015, and British Chris Froome, in 2017. Colombian Miguel Ángel López, Steven Kruijswijk, Rigoberto Urán, Nairo Quintana and Alejandro Valverde are some of the cyclists who will be protagonists during the three weeks of the race and who will be fighting for the red cycling jersey.

We have previously mentioned that the Costa Blanca offers many other options beyond its beautiful beaches and coves for taking a dip! In fact, if we are talking precisely about going for a refreshing swim, a great option is to explore the inland areas in the province of Alicante and enjoy the fresh water! In addition, the ideal location of Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort offers you a wide range of options within an hour’s drive – keep reading and don’t miss any of our recommendations!

Less than an hour from Cumbre del Sol

A few minutes from Sella, a town very close to Benitatxell, we find the recreational area Font Major. In addition to being a campesite, it also has a small swimming area with a natural pool surrounded by trees that offer abundant shade and tables to spend the day with family and friends.

Meanwhile, closer to Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort, you’ll find Callosa d’en Sarriá. Here there are two other good options to go swimming: the Estret de les Penyes or the famous Fuentes del Algar. The first option is a spectacular place to take a little break given its location and crystal waters. The waterfall not only attracts swimmers, you’ll also likely see people canyoning on weekends.

Las Fuentes del Algar, Callosa D’en Sarriá’s second inland natural pool, is a popular spot in the province of Alicante. It is one of the few places where you have to pay, but it also has special facilities: toilets, lifeguard and parking.

More than an hour from Cumbre del Sol

Planes – Barranco de la Encantada

Close to Planes you will find Benilloba, where the Molí del Salt offers us another chance to cool off in the Comtat region. A small waterfall runs over into a natural swimming pool, one of the most remote in the whole province of Alicante. It is also a place with a lot of history: the name for Molí del Salt comes from a flour mill dating back to 1760, in which only a few leftover ruins can be seen.

Although the Comtat region is one of the furthest from Cumbre del Sol in this province, the Barranco de la Encantada is one of the most worthwhile visits. Throughout the ravine, there are many pools in which you can stop to enjoy a swim: Toll Blau, Toll Estret or the Gorg del Salt waterfall. Don’t miss out on exploring and discovering the Barranco de la Encantada, with its 8 kilometres of pure and untouched nature.

There is also a zipline, a Tibetan style bridge and abseiling services. The Benilloba local government has set up a picnic area next to the car park, making Molí del Salt a great option for spending the entire day.

Since we are already talking about in the province of Valencia, the Pou Clar in Onteniente is another of the natural inland swimming areas we can enjoy. In fact, the Pou Clar is only one of the 6 pools that we find one after the other at the source of the  Clariano river: Pou Clar, Pou dels Esclaus, Pou Gelat, Pou de laReixa, Pou Fosc and Pou dels Cavallas.

With various options within the province and close to Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort, you’ll be able to combine the beaches and coves of the Costa Blanca with the cold waters of the natural pools perfectly.

Welcome the new season through the Cycle of Spring Concerts in Benitatxell!

The arrival of spring doesn’t just bring us more pleasant temperatures, it also means the arrival of interesting activities like the 13th Cycle of Spring Concerts in Poble Nou de Benitatxell. Every Saturday in March, at 8pm, you will have the chance to enjoy some live music at the Santa María Magdalena church where the Marina Alta orchestra got this musical month off to the best start with their tribute to Mozart.

The music genres that attendees will enjoy are undoubtedly varied: the programme offers traditional, with regional music heard in celebrations, more classical music, and modern sounds like jazz.

After the Marina Alta Orchestra concert, on the 9th March, there is something a bit different – the 7th Young Performers Competition. This contest aims to boost the interest of Benitatxell’s young people in music and the study of music.

On Saturday 16th March, the saxophone quartet Púrpura Dansa will fill the Santa María Magdalena church with the music of famous composers such as Grieg, Dvorak, Valero-Castells and Piazzolla. The quintet Reversió Grup brings the traditional sound of the dulzaina to the present day, accompanied by piano and percussion.

The 30th March brings the turn of local music from the Costa Blanca with two-step pieces and music from the Festivals of Moors and Christians. Finally, the municipal music group of Santa María Magdalena will be responsible for saying farewell to the 13th Cycle of Spring Concerts in Benitatxell.
