Benitachell, character just minutes from CDS

Benitachell, character just minutes from CDS

If you are one of the lucky residents of Cumbre del Sol, you are bound to have heard of Benitachell, the municipality where our exclusive development is located. However, if you would like to discover all its services and learn more about its history and there’s a lot more to that than you might think, keep reading and we’ll give you all the details.

Firstly, we look back at the history of the municipality which has a fascinating past given the different cultures of those who inhabited its villages and farmsteads. Islamic culture is one example, having given the place its name, as well as naming other districts such as Moraig, the beach at the foot of our mountain that is one of the most treasured spots in the Mediterranean. Although if we’re talking place names, did you know that the official name is El Poble Nou de Benitatxell? That’s because it was the last village to be repopulated by Christians in this part of La Marina.

Dicover the charms of Benitachell

Now that you know a little more about this lovely little town, how about taking wander with us around its historic centre? We start at the Jaime Llobell oratory or chapel of prayer. Entrance to the hermitage leads into an interior patio where you can admire the simple baroque style with its neoclassical touches. A weekly mass is held in the hermitage on Saturday evenings. Back in the open again, just 5 minutes away, after crossing the calle de la Pau and calle Mayor, you come to the Town Hall, with its rough-hewn stone façade, a material that is used widely in the area. Continue on to the church square, where you will come to the town’s most prized monument located at its highest point, namely the church of Saint Mary Magdalen. Don’t be put off by its rather austere exterior, inside it is richly decorated mainly in white and gold. And finally, you have to visit El Portalet, the gateway leading to the back of the church square and behind it you will find the lookout point or mirador with views of Montgó natural park, Cabo de Sant Antioni and the bay of Jávea. Don’t forget to round off your walk with a good meal, and on the Town Hall  web site you’ll find all the restaurants in the area, why not try one?

A village with every service and plenty of things to do

Benitachell has all the services that you need within reach, such as schools, post office. Police station, pharmacy, health centre etc. Not only that, but the municipality is committed to the environment and has a green point for Cumbre del Sol residents, located right beside the shopping centre, which encourages recycling, and so that residents can dispose of their waste easily including gardening waste.

However, leisure and entertainment also play a part in this story. Would you like to practise your steps or learn to play an instrument? Sign up to the Municipal School of Music and Dance, although if you are more of a reading type, you can lose yourself among books and stories in the Municipal Library. Not only that, but the Town Hall is always planning new activities and it just so happens that we are right in the middle of the Mitjafava Fest, with a series of events which will be continuing until 23 April, such as the longest broad bean and the bean with most gallons. You can check out the festival programme here. Another interesting activity for making the most of Benitachell is Maria Monfort’s Paisatges de la meua terra Exhibition which you can find at the Municipal Market until 15 May.

Now that you have all the information you need to get the most from Benitachell, remember to look out for our upcoming blog posts to keep abreast of everything that’s going on in Residential Resort Cumbre del Sol.

Important Information for Foreign Residents

Important Information for Foreign Residents

If there is one thing that characterises Residential Resort Cumbre del Sol, it’s that it’s made up of a large international community. As you know, there are many foreigners who decide to move to Cumbre del Sol and spend their daily lives in a natural, cosmopolitan and unique setting.

The aim of this blog post is, among other things, to explain some of the latest updates regarding the COVD-19 crisis in the Valencian Community and, more specifically, in Poble Nou de Benitatxell.

As you know, the vaccination process has been underway for more than two months in Spain. However, if you are a foreign resident at Residential Resort Cumbre del Sol, you should check to see if you are registered in the Spanish Health System so that when the time comes for the vaccination there are no problems. If you are not registered as a private patient, don’t have a SIP card or have any doubts about your situation in this regard, you should go to the Benitatxell Medical Clinic. There they can check each case in a personalised manner every weekday, from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 to 15:00.

In addition, here is a reminder of the telephone numbers for any queries you may have:

Health Centre: 965 73 90 75

Marina Salud: 965 64 86 04

Conselleria: 961 83 90 00

Brexit Situation

Another topic we would like to discuss regarding foreign residents at Residential Resort Cumbre del Sol is Brexit. The new situation, which definitively separates the United Kingdom from the European Union, entails certain changes for British citizens in Spain.

Some of the new regulations are related to political matters such as the right to vote or links to political parties; others are in the area of transport, such as traffic or travel, now with more bureaucratic steps to take and other aspects of daily life such as civil protection or residency.

This change in the relationship with the United Kingdom and all that it entails for British citizens living in Spain translates into a multitude of procedures and formalities. For this reason, the Town Council of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell has launched a survey to find out the opinion of British residents in the town. The aim is to get to know each case in order to be able to offer a more personalised service, advising and helping them with whatever they might need. Enjoy a Literary Summer Without Leaving Cumbre del Sol

Summer is once again around the corner, and even though this year is a little different because of COVID-19, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a great time from your home at Cumbre del Sol. To make our summer more enjoyable, the Poble Noe de Benitachell Town Hall has launched a “Literature Online” programme through the municipal library.

This initiative aims to bring literature into homes across the municipality in the most entertaining way possible. From Thursday, June 11th to the 13th of August, the town hall will upload literary video workshops to its YouTube channel and social media profiles. “Literature Online” will delve into two main themes: literature-inspired recipes and feminist literature.

“Literature Online” Schedule Poster

First of all, the literary-inspired recipe workshops are designed to make the summer a blast for all the kids at home. These videos will also shine a spotlight on some of the most famous literary works. Children will learn to cook alongside Harry Potter, Games of Thrones and Don Quixote of La Mancha. Get ready and don’t miss out on this literary opportunity on the following Saturdays at 11:30 am:  June 13th, July 11th and August 8th!

This programme will also feature reviews of the most important literary works that feature women as their main protagonists. These video-workshops will include the following books: We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie; A Room of One’s Own by the famous British writer, Virginia Woolf; Like Water for Chocolate, an intense novel by the Mexican author, Laura Esquivel; and The Feminine Mystique by Pulitzer Prize winner, Betty Friedman. The workshops will be uploaded at 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 11th and 25th, July 16th, and August 13th. Don’t forget to write it down so you don’t miss it!

Furthermore, the fun doesn’t have to stop when the videos are over. You can also send in photos and videos of your recipes, as well as participate in debates and conversations about the books that were reviewed.

You’ll be able to immerse yourself in the greatest literary works and enjoy yourself to the fullest this summer, and all of this without having to leave home! Whether you’re on your terrace, sunbathing by the pool or lounging in your spacious dining room, you’ll be able to make the most of your two greatest passions: literature and summer on the Costa Blanca.

Mercat de la Llorença: the third Saturday of every month

Mercat de la Llorença: the third Saturday of every month

At Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort, the benefits you will enjoy include not just a house with every luxury imaginable and the privilege of being close to nature with views of the sea, but a huge variety of events which seek to bring people together and recover the traditions of the area.

If you love nature and ecological products, get out your calendar and draw a big circle around the third Saturday of every month for the Mercat de la Llorença.  Over the next few months, it will be taking place on the 15th September, 20th October, 17th November, and 15th December. It will run from 10am to 2pm and be held in Market Square in Poble Nou de Benitatxell.

This fabulous market, created by the Department of Agriculture of Poble Nou de Benitatxell, aims to offer inhabitants and visitors in the municipality a place where they can buy high quality ecological products such as mountain honey, organic vegetables, and even artisanal beers.

The name of the event, “Mercat de la Llorença”, is not just a reference to the massif where Poble Nou de Benitatxell is found, it is also a female name. In this way, therefore, the market seeks to support farmers and artisans in the area while also paying tribute to the role of rural women. It is for this reason that an image of a woman was chosen to promote the market, and a story was even made up about her. In this story, it is said that a woman named Llorença was born in the massif which shares her name, and that she loved the earth.
