Much like it does every year, Spain is getting ready to dress up and celebrate Carnival. Of course, the Costa Blanca will be doing its bit to display the happiness, colours, and magic of Carnival. In fact, there is sure to be a fancy dress party in every municipality in the province of Alicante during the first weekend in March. As a result, there’s no need to travel far to enjoy a special night – here are our recommendations for the best Carnival celebrations on the Costa Blanca.
Benissa, close to Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort, celebrates the holiday in a traditional way. The city gets dressed up starting in the afternoon, first with a children’s parade followed by live music in the Dolors Piera park, then an outdoor disco in Riberer square.
Two of the largest cities in Marina Alta, Denia and Calpe, also organise an event for Carnival with special activities for children. In Denia, there is a fancy dress competition with different categories to participate in: for the little ones there are two categories (Mini, up to 4 years old; and Children, from 5 to 12 years old), then there is Duo, for pairs with no age limit, and Comparsa, for groups of 3 or more people. Calpe also organises a fancy dress contest in which two prizes are awarded in the individual category and up to three are given in the group category. In the evening, the party comes to the city with a parade and a charanga band battle from 12:00 onwards. You can find more information on the Caple Council website. Here, you can also enjoy something that is unique to the area – the German Carnival which is organised by the Calpe Creative Club, a group of Germans who live in the city.
One of the most famous Carnivals on the Costa Blanca is the one in Pego. The city throws itself wholeheartedly into the holiday and the celebrations even start a week beforehand with the “Baixada del RiuBullent”, a fun activity which involves a race along the river in motorless boats made by the participants themselves… in fancy dress!
Of course, the capital of the Costa Blanca, Alicante, also celebrates Carnival with a huge parade. The most important day is the 2nd March, when the well-known sábado ramblero takes over Rambla de Méndez Núñez from 10pm.

Christmas, one of the most magical times of the year, is just around the corner! The biggest fans of the holiday season will surely have spent weeks planning their Christmas decorations while many have already started dressing up their homes with festive colours and lights. If you are one of them and you live in Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort, don’t forget that we are running a very special Christmas decoration contest. We love to spread Christmas spirit!
As these magical dates draw closer and we enjoy meetups with friends and family, it’s also time for the arrival of the Christmas markets. From handmade products to decorations to liven up any part of your home, there are a huge variety of objects to be found in them. In addition, there are also stalls selling food which is typical of the area – here in Alicante, don’t miss polvorones, a type of shortbread dusted with icing sugar, and turrón, an almond nougat.
This is your chance to discover the best Christmas markets on the Costa Blanca. Soak up their magic as you take advantage to buy something for your home or get presents for your loved ones. Here are five Christmas markets close to your home in Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort!
Altea Christmas market is taking place from the 6th to the 9th of December in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, from 11am-2pm and from 5pm-9pm. There will be more than a dozen stalls and children’s activities and you can also make the most of the chance to stroll through its old town, appreciating the charms of this lovely city’s paved streets and white houses.
In Calpe, there’s the 6th Fira de Nadal Calp, also from the 6th to the 9th December. It will be taking place in the old town with musical performances, children’s activities and products from associations and local businesses. Don’t miss it!
In Jávea there will be a handicrafts market located in the Plaza de la Iglesia which began in November and will be returning on the 8th December. Though this market is not just for Christmas, it is also full of handmade items and local products. In addition, in the Jávea parador on the 8th and 9th December from 11am-8:30pm you will find the fourth edition of the IT Market, a Christmas market with a variety of exclusive handmade products.
On the 16th December, there are two more Christmas markets to add to your calendar! One which takes place all day in Teulada on Avenida Santa Catalina and in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. You’ll be able to find local, handcrafted products and all kinds of typical Christmas things.
Also on the 16th December, you can immerse yourself in the festive spirit at the Benitatxell Christmas market which is open from 10am-2pm in Calle La Pau, Calle Mayor and Calle Mercat. There is a full programme of Christmas events taking place throughout the morning: children’s activities, workshops and a batucada, as well as a visit to the traditional “Burreta de Nadal”, the Christmas donkey, which is a real symbol of Christmas magic in Benitatxell.
This Christmas, your home on the Costa Blanca will be full of holiday spirit! The countdown to Christmas has begun! The Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort Christmas Decoration Contest is here once more and we invite all the residents of this wonderful place to participate. Show your creative side during the festive period and fill your home with Christmas spirit! This year there will be two categories: Decoration outside the property and Decoration inside the property. We know that many of you in Cumbre del Sol decorate both the inside and outside of your homes, so you will be able to participate in both categories. Send an email to cumbredelsol@vapf.com before the 10th December with your full name, address, phone number and email address, indicating which category you would like to take part in. Don’t miss out!
The judges for the second Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort Christmas Decoration Contest will be Vicente Mestre, Sales and Marketing Director at VAPF Group, as well as others from the Post Sales Department and Construction Department.
How will the voting take place? The judges will visit the properties and award a score from 0 to 10 points per home. And if there is a draw? The voting will be repeated but this time scores will be from 1 to 3. The judges will visit the homes starting on the 13th December 2018 at 5:30pm and the names of the winners will be announced on the 18th December at an event organised by VAPF in La Cumbre Restaurant.
The prizes are as follows:
- The first prize in the category Decoration outside the property will be a Christmas hamper valued at €250.
- The second prize in the category Decoration outside the property will be a Christmas hamper valued at €150.
- The prize for the best Decoration inside the property will be a Christmas hamper valued at €150.
In addition, all those who take part will receive a small gift from VAPF.

If you want to enjoy a unique and magical Saint John’s Eve, come to celebrate it at Chiringuito Cala de Moraig. Take advantage of the occasion to get together with friends and family, or to celebrate this magical night getting to know your neighbours in the Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort. As the longest day of the year, Saint John’s Eve is one of summer’s most magical times – so there’s no excuse not to go out and enjoy it. This is also the very first Saint John’s Eve to be celebrated at Chiringuito Cala de Moraig.
If you don’t want to miss this spectacular event, come to spend it with us at Chiringuito Cala de Moraig. The event will begin at 8:00pm with a welcome drink and a gift. An hour later, at 9:00pm, dinner will be served. There will be the following dishes to share:
Goat’s cheese salad with duck ham
Smoked cod served on a bed of tomato
Grilled calamari with green sauce
For the main course, attendees can choose from:
Fresh tuna with vegetables
Iberian sirloin with mushroom sauce
And, for dessert, there is:
Tiramisu
Seasonal fruits.
Water and half a bottle of wine (Rueda White, Navarra Rosé, or Sangre de Toro Red) are also included. After dinner, at 11pm, the dance will begin, before we add the final touch to this magical night with a toast at midnight.
To make this event even more special, there’s also a dress code: to dress in white. In many places this is considered a ritual while in others, it has become a tradition.
Given that the maximum capacity is 80 people, attendees will need to make an advance payment of 40 euros per person. We recommend booking your place as soon as possible either at Chiringuito Cala de Moraig, or via bank transfer. Request our account details at the email address com@yater.es to make your payment. To book your place, it will also be necessary to send the names of the attendees and their choice of main course in the same email. On Saturday 12th May, the inauguration of the tennis/padel courts and the restaurant “Como en casa” took place in the Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort. The event was a success in which 120 participants had the chance to enjoy a tennis display and the restaurant’s delicious food.
The Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort continues to increase its range of services. Last Saturday, we officially opened the tennis/padel courts and the restaurant “Como en Casa”. All those who live in Cumbre del Sol, as well as neighbours from nearby towns, were invited to the event.
The event began with a speech by the Mayor of Poble Nou de Benitatxell, followed by a tennis match between professional players thanks to Dylan Mary, who manages the courts. After the match, attendees had the chance to sample the delicious food from Mari Paz, owner of the “Como en Casa” restaurant.
Afterwards, there was a raffle for those who attended the event. The prizes to be won were a voucher for 5 classes with tennis coach Dylan Mary, and a meal for four in Mari Paz’s restaurant “Como en Casa”.

Throughout the event, attendees were able to enjoy some time in our Cumbre del Sol Residential Resort, made even more pleasant by the music, food and drink, activities for the little ones, spectacular views and of course, the company of their neighbours. It was a great opportunity to forge new friendships and meet up with friends who come to this wonderful resort on the Costa Blanca.
