As a resident of Residential Resort Cumbre del Sol, you’re no stranger to Blue Flag beaches, such as Cala Moraig which has been awarded this title many times. We’re sure you’ve already fallen in love with its crystalline-waters and superb services and amenities. However, you might be curious to learn more about the other Blue Flag beaches that are just a stone’s throw away from your home in Cumbre del Sol.
The Costa Blanca is a privileged location for many reasons, but the fact that it is the coastline with the most Blue Flags in all of Spain exemplifies why it’s one of the most popular tourist destinations. Spain has been the world leader of Blue Flag beaches since 1987, and this year, the Valencia Community is once again the autonomous community with the highest number of prized beaches. That being said, Alicante is the province with the highest number of all for a grand total of 86 Blue Flags, more than Valencia and Castellon combined.
If you’re unfamiliar with what makes a beach worthy of this title, the recognition is based on four benchmarks:
- The quality of the sandbanks and waters.
- Environmental conditions such as cleanliness, well-appointed sanitary facilities and properly maintained surroundings.
- The presence of lifeguards, rescue and healthcare services, as well as accessibility.
- Environmental education and information about the ecosystem, code of conduct and water quality.
Let’s travel just outside of Benitachell and discover all the Blue Flag beaches in Marina Alta. In Javea, close to Cumbre del Sol, you’ll find three blue flag beaches: La Grava, l’Arenal and Granadella. Just as close, there’s Teulada with three more beaches: El Portet, l’Ampolla and Platgetes. Not far from these, you’ll also find Cala Fustera in Benissa.
If you want to take a day trip down south, you can head over to Calpe or Altea, two coastal towns just thirty minutes away. Both have three blue flag beaches each; in Calpe, there’s la Fosa, Cantal Roi and Arenal Bol; meanwhile, in Altea, there are beaches like Cap Blanc, L’Espigó and La Roda. In L’Alfàs del Pi, a quaint Spanish town, there’s La Playa Racó de L’Albir. Of course, we can’t leave out Benidorm! The city boasts of three blue flag beaches: Playa de Levante, Playa de Poniente and Playa del Mal Pas.
Get your sun hat, sandals and towel and get ready to go for a swim! Living at Cumbre del Sol is synonymous with living in a paradise where every day is like a summer holiday. What better way to make the most of your day than to head over to one of these Blue Flag beaches? Fall in love with everything that makes living on the Costa Blanca idyllic.
After the recommendations we made in our first and second post, we’d like to bring you more cities close to Residential Resort Cumbre del Sol you can visit. This time we are focusing on cities with a more relaxed lifestyle, and with a much smaller population than the previous cities.
You don’t have to go very far to discover two small towns like Gata de Gorgos and Teulada-Moraira, both located in the comarca of Marina Alta, just a few kilometres away from Benitachell. Villajoysa in Marina Baixa is, and there’s no better way to say it, the sweetest way to end your journey.
Gata de Gorgos: craftsmanship showcases the city
Just 18 kilometres separate Cumbre del Sol from the town of Gata de Gorgos, which is in the interior of La Marina Alta. The contrast between the hustle and bustle of the coastal towns and this small town can be felt as soon as you set foot inside of it.
Something else that stands out as soon as you enter Gata de Gorgos is the presence of artisanal products like guitars, hats, baskets and wicker bags. The fact that the population is just under 6000 inhabitants won’t stop you from finding ten hat factories, seven specialised in bags and two in guitars.
Among the town’s many spots to explore we highlight its Cuevas Rojas or any of its many hiking trails. When you finish in Gata de Gorgos, you can head back towards the Costa Blanca seaside.
Teulada-Moraira: viewpoints to gaze at dreamlike beaches
Teulada and Moraira are two must-see stops in La Marina Alta. Speaking about them at the same time is just a question of location: Moraira is a part of the Teulada municipality (also known as the Teulada-Moraira municipality). Before reaching the coast, stop by the principal town of Teulada and discover the town walls that once surrounded it. Continue your route towards the coast calmly and enjoy the natural nooks you’ll encounter throughout your journey.
When you reach Moraira you can choose where to start from. You have viewpoints like Portitxol and L’Andragó, where you can rediscover the blue of the Mediterranean. You can opt to walk along its eight-kilometre beach while you decide if you want to go for a swim or not, or you can ponder if you should eat at one of its many restaurants before you leave. A high percentage of Moraira’s population are from abroad, which is why you can try dishes from all over the world.
Villajoyosa: the sweetest tradition
The last stop before returning to Residential Resort Cumbre del Sol will end the journey on a sweet note. Villajoyosa, in the comarca of Marina Baixa, owes its fame to an excellent chocolate tradition, thanks to the different sweets factories you’ll find here.
Don’t get too full on dessert and make sure to walk through streets like Arsenal, del Pal, Pou and Sant Pere so you can witness the most photographed and postcard-worthy part in La Vila: the colourful facades of its homes. Don’t miss out on the chance to discover the old city, where you will find the church of Nuestra Señora de Asunción, the Torre de Sant Josep (Saint Joseph’s Tower), the XVI century Torres Vigía and the walled enclosure that used to surround it.
All these municipalities are found less than an hour away from Residential Resort Cumbre del Sol and you can enjoy them any day of the year. Keep an eye on our blog to discover more must-see spots on the Costa Blanca that you can’t miss out on.

The main protagonist of the event will be German beer, but don’t not forget that there will also be folklore as well as typical German products and cuisine. In order to properly kick off such an important event for our German community and the city of Calpe, the mayor will be tapping the first keg and will crown the Festival Queen 2019. From that day on, there are various events planned such as jug lifting contests, Bavarian lunches, prizes for the 3 best costumes and much more. Don’t miss this opportunity to discover German culture first-hand and taste typical German dishes while attending one of the Steinsberger concerts.
Can’t make it during these dates? Maybe you didn’t have enough time to try all the different varieties? Don’t worry, because the Teulada-Moraira Oktoberfest will take place from the 18th through the 20th of October in the Les Sorts car park. The event will take place on Saturday 30 December at 19:00 h. and the admission price is € 26.
