Cumbre del Sol: everything you need close at hand

Cumbre del Sol means life in a residential development in an exclusive location in the Costa Blanca Norte, with views of the sea and the Granadella Nature Reserve. It means life in a place with an enviable climate, over 300 days of sunshine, beaches and nature…. Living in Cumbre del Sol also means being part of an extremely active and multicultural international community where absolutely everything you need is at hand. In today’s blog post we provide an overview of the enormous range of services that you will find in the residential development that will make your life in Costa Blanca Norte as easy and as comfortable as possible.

Sports facilities

The tennis and the padel courts in particular ,at Cumbre del Sol have become a benchmark not only in the development, but also in the whole Marina Alta area. Tournaments are held regularly on the courts which are set in a part of the development that enjoys fabulous sea views. Just a few metres from the courts, you will find Cañada del Sol Riding School, which all year round offers all kinds of horse riding outings and treks, riding classes, and a children’s farm. …

The Pure Wellness Centre also organises exercises classes with a personal trainer to get fit either individually or in classes, with groups for every age.

Restaurants, supermarkets…

As we’re in the Mediterranean, excellent cuisine is a must. Something as essential as stopping by Restaurante La Cumbre, which serves fresh produce in a pleasant atmosphere with views of the sea. There is no better scenario for enjoying the Mediterranean diet. Other extremely interesting options in the development are the Dreamsea Mediterranean restaurant, along with Como en Casa and Kiosko del Sol, which has opened this year and is located at the north entrance, where you can savour signature dishes, a huge range of sweets and desserts, cakes, buns and tarts.

When you’ve finished your training session or your beauty treatment at the Pure Wellness centre, you can enjoy an organic juice or shake, and a selection of hot meals, salads and sandwiches. There are also vegan options which make it an alternative attraction.

And when you feel like surprising your family, friends or guests by taking over the cooking, the Pepe La Sal supermarket is your friend. There you will find the finest selection of meat and fresh fish in the Marina Alta and Baixa, with its premium delicatessen and an extensive selection of wines with products from all over the world.

The prestigious Lady Elizabeth School is located in Cumbre del Sol. This private school offers an excellent education for children from the age of 15 months up to 18 years. Lady Elizabeth School is as international as the residential development itself and teaches pupils from 20 different nationalities. Costa Blanca Norte: cycling at its best

Costa Blanca Norte: cycling at its best

Sports tourism and specifically, professional cycling has become an important activity in the Costa Blanca, especially in recent years. Witness to this fact are the twelve international cycling teams that have chosen the Costa Blanca Norte as the location for their sports training, added to which there are two local teams, one in Gandía and another in Benicassim.

The area’s outdoor sports culture, the temperatures (which are pleasant all year round with a scant 22 days rainfall out of 365 days) and the steep and hilly landscape make it the perfect place for cyclists. That’s why teams sponsored by Movistar, Astana or Bahrain, to name just a few, prepare and train for their sport in the municipal districts of Costa Blanca Norte.

What makes it so special?

As we mentioned, the climate is one of the Costa Blanca Norte’s great advantages. Finding somewhere with so many hours of sunshine and ideal temperatures for outdoor sports all year round is no easy task, yet here you have it all.

We should also mention the different types of cycling surface. From roads to mountains, it is possible to adapt the routes according to the cyclist’s profile and proficiency.

Given this veritable deluge of cyclists in the area, the region has considerably improved its sports facilities, with new bike parks for mountain bikes, as well as a new and extensive range of hotels and catering to meet the needs of both professional teams and cycling enthusiasts who visit the Costa Blanca. Not only that, but the environment is completely safe. Many coastal areas are not equipped with the requisite infrastructure, above all in terms of roads safe for cycling. However, the Comunidad Valenciana and various other locations on the Costa Blanca in general, particularly in the northern part, have been working for years to create a safe system which is always in adequate conditions for practising this sport.

Historic competition scenario

This relation goes back a long way. Many sporting competitions have developed or passed through the Costa Blanca Norte. For example, the Costa Blanca Bike Race 2023 opens the mountain bike season in Spain, and it is planned as the first stop of the year for the best of the world XCM cyclists. Furthermore, Cumbre del Sol, was the goal of the 9th stage of La Vuelta a España in the 2015 and 2017 races, as well as being considered in 2019 as one of the so called  “most exciting climbs”.

The  Comunidad Valenciana Cycle Race  has passed through the municipalities of the Costa Blanca Norte on several occasions and 2023 is no exception. In particular, on 2 February the second stage of the competition passed through Cumbre del Sol.  The race began in Novelda and ended in the area of Alto de Pinos in Cumbre del Sol (Benissa).

If you are a sports enthusiast, and in particular, a fan of cycling, you will already know that Cumbre del Sol is the perfect place for this pastime, albeit your own cycling or for enjoying the various competitions that take place in the Costa Blanca Norte. We suggest you keep an eye on our blog posts to keep abreast of activities and events near your home.

Sporting events in Marina Alta

Sporting events in Marina Alta

The Costa Blanca is an ideal destination for fans of sport: from professionals to aficionados and those who come just to enjoy sporting events as spectators.

Its mountains, beaches, the excellent road network and the extensive range of facilities make this part of the Spanish Levant a unique destination for practising sport at any time of the year.

The Marina Alta District League

Once again this year, the Marina Alta District League will be holding its traditional competitions with 14 sporting events, athletics, badminton, basketball, mountain biking,  chess, five a side football, rhythmic gymnastics, karate, multi-sports, swimming, padel, Valencian handball, tennis and volley ball.

In this new edition, the towns of Benissa, Calpe, Denia, Benitachell, El Verger, Els Poblets, Gata de Gorgos, Jesús Pobre, La Rectoría, Vall de Laguar, La Xara, Murla, Ondara, Orba, Pedreguer, Pego, Teulada-Moraira, Xàbia and Xaló will be taking part. All these competitions and activities are run by the Marina Alta District League, which was founded in 1994 so that all the towns in the area could enjoy ongoing competitions.

The Xarxa Esportiva is the body that coordinates all these activities (you can see their events calendar here) and it undertakes to promote sport in all the local towns and districts in the area, announcing to the general public and to local organisations the volume and quality of the activities organised by the Marina Alta sports network for young people.
There is no question that the added value of an organisation that promotes sport and sporting events is a bonus if you are seeking somewhere new to live. By making room for sport in their lives, young people will have a huge range of sporting activities to choose from, together with other things to do, leading a healthy life with a host of outdoor pastimes on the Costa Blanca Norte practically all year round. .

And that’s not all

If there is one thing that the Costa Blanca Norte is known for, it’s the climate and temperatures that mean that you can play sport every day of the year while you enjoy the spectacular countryside and discover a few small corners of paradise.

Cycling

Cycling is the king of open air sports.  The Costa Blanca Norte is blessed with numerous cycling routes through fantastic countryside that will delight cycling buffs, and you can discover them in this article.

Swimming

Because the beach is not just for summer. Autumn and springtime (and winter as well for those who are especially brave) are great for enjoying the Mediterranean when it is so much quieter than during the summer season. A few lengths first thing in the morning will set you up for the day, brimming with energy. Do you know the best beaches and coves on the Costa Blanca Norte? If not, take note of the ones we mention in this article.

Hiking and trails

Are you interested in panoramic views? If so, what could be better than seeking out some of the countryside routes and trails in the area. In summer, the mountains often take a back seat when the sea is the focus for nearly everyone, but out of season this area gets the attention it deserves and everyone can enjoy days out in nature. Take a look at this post that we published a while back, and we mention a few places as a taster here:

Sierra Helada. With cliffs rising to 300 metres, and some exceptional plant life. There are itineraries for every taste and an 8 kilometre trail for you to follow.

Sierra de Bernia. The views of the Alicante coast from the sierra de Bernia mountains are spectacular, especially after crossing El Forat, a path excavated in the rock.

Peñón de Ifach. This is Calpe’s landmark, rising up majestically over the sea. It is a protected nature reserve and easy to get to, and although the second part of the route is a little bit more difficult, when you see  the views you’ll know that it was worth it.

Altea Club de Golf

We have yet another recommendation, and that’s the Altea Club de Golf, which is the Sierra de Bernia. This is a par 72 course where you can play 9 to 18 holes, providing a real challenge for golfers of every calibre.
