Say Goodbye Winter and Hello to Spring at the “Fesalí, Alcalalí in Bloom”

Even though winter hasn’t officially ended, spring has already started to blossom in the province of Alicante. Wintertime is usually synonymous with cold weather, rain or even snow, but that’s not the case on the Costa Blanca! At Residential Resort Cumbre del Sol, our residents have the luxury of waking up to sunny skies and pleasant weather almost all year long. Spring is the best time of year to discover new and colourful places near your home, which is why the town of Alcalalí is the perfect place to visit! It is offering the opportunity to look at life through rose coloured glasses during their four-weekend long “Feslalí, Alcalalí in Bloom” festival (Feslalí, Alcalalí en flor).

Throughout February, the landscape is painted in pink as the almond trees, which are so characteristic of the area, can be seen in full bloom. For the fifth year in a row, Alcalalí celebrates the flowering of these trees with a wide range of activities that can be enjoyed throughout the month. Located in La Marina Alta, Alcalalí is only a 30-minute drive from your home at Residential Resort Cumbre del Sol. Don’t miss the opportunity to spend your weekends taking part in events, contests, hikes and more!

The festival kicks off on the 1st of February with the inauguration of a tapas route in which almonds are, naturally, the star ingredient. Each establishment has prepared special menus, exclusive to the festival, aimed to celebrate the arrival of spring through classic tapas dishes with a twist. Visit different bars and restaurants in Alcalalí throughout the month and revel in this unique gastronomic experience. As you tour through Alcalalí and savour all these amazing dishes, don’t forget to pick up your camera and take part in the photomarathon! If you enjoy photo-tourism, this event is for you! Participate in the photography contest and preserve the memories you’ll be making among the budding trees.

The contests don’t end there; you can participate in a baking competition the very next day! The main requirement is the use of Alcalalí’s famous almonds as the primary ingredient. If baking isn’t for you or you just want to appreciate the blossoming trees even more, then you can join in on one of the various hikes organised every weekend. Additionally, on the 15th, you can challenge yourself and hike up the 13km ‘Peña Talaia’ trail, and on the 16th, your pet can join in on the festivities with you during the pet-friendly hike.

If you’re more theatrically inclined, the second weekend of the festival offers theatre performances which highlight various issues facing the community. There is also a gymkhana on Sunday at City Hall. Meanwhile, the third weekend is once again all about food. It’ll be impossible to run out of things to do! Don’t hesitate and look through the festival’s programming that lists all the activities this charming town has in store for the next few weekends.

The festival ends with a bang, hosting both an artisan market full of handmade goods and local products, as well as a fair accompanied by performances and parades. Children can also take part in traditional songs and games on either day respectively. There’s truly something for everyone, so take the opportunity to celebrate spring a little early thanks to Alicante’s idyllic surroundings and weather!
