The new terminal of the international airport of El Altet (Alicante) was inaugurated by the President of the Region of Valencia, Francesc Camps, accompanied by Development Minister José Blanco. Since its opening, the airport expansion will mean the creation of 1,270 jobs.
The airport is the main entry point for European tourists who vacation in tourist locations like Calpe and Jávea.
This new infrastructure is part of the LevantePlan by the Ministry of Development to conduct a complete modernization of the existing airport infrastructure.
The new terminal has an Automatic Baggage Handling System able to process 7,880 bags per hour and inspect 100% of the baggage on its transit.
The new lounges feature a total area of 27,000 m2 and with 26 gates to aircraft.
Along with this new terminal, a new parking area has been built, consisting of 6 floors with a capacity of 4,200 vehicles.
With this Alicante airport expansion, it is expected to raise its capacity to 20 million passengers a year. Total investment in the expansion plan was more than 600 million Euros.
