Moors and Christians in Moraira
On the weekend of 11th and 12th December, the streets of Moraira are embellished to celebrate the “Mig Any” (Half Year) of the Moros y Cristianos -Moors and Christians Fiestas-. As the tradition advises, the General Committee organizes this fiesta for another year. The event will be celebrated, mostly, in the tent of “Les Sorts” parking area. This is the same spot where the VII Feria de Nuestro Comercio –Local trade fair- took place only a week ago.
The highlight of this weekend event is the presentation of the Captains of the parade groups or Filaes that take part in the Moors and Christians marches. Another important event is the brotherhood dinners.
Every year, the main Moors and Christians fiesta of Moraira take place in June. (link post blog CDS 2010-06-01). Particularly impressive are the disembarkment in the Moraira castle and the gala parade held on the last Sunday of the fiesta.
Another interesting local event of solid tradition that attracts many visitors to town is the Christmas Street Market in Teulada, held in the Teulada Town Hall square and its surrounding streets.
