Fava and Wine Fest, Benitachell
Next weekend, the 1st Wine and Fava Festival will take place at Poble Nou de Benitachell, a festival which will award commercial wines produced in the municipality, homemade wines and farmers who harvested the biggest “fava”( broad bean) in town.
The “Vino del Terreno” (local wine) and “Favas” (broad beans) are two of the most traditional delicacies of Benitachell, reason why the city will celebrate the “Festa del Vi i I Fava” (Festival of wine and beans) next 20 and 21 April. The main attractions of the festival (besides the white and red wines tasting and contests) will be the technical conference and exchange of experiences on agricultural technology, along with the degustation of a wide range of tapas, as you can see in the schedule below:
Saturday 20 April:
10:00 h.: Collecting of wine bottles for the contests
19:30 h.: Lecture “Control of wine grape ripening” by Tonet Puig at the Social Center; after that, wine toast and appetizer.
Sunday 21 April:
9:00 to 10:30 h.: Lunch and experience sharing about beans, then Broad Beans contest open to all local beans producers.
09:30 h.: Tapas degustation by bars and restaurants association of El Poble Nou de Benitachell at Plaza Nueva.
10:30 to 12:00 h.:
What do we know about the beans? Day of traditional and technical knowledge, food technology, organic agriculture and everything related to beans. Event conducted by Jesús M. Rodriguez from Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias (IVIA) of Elche.
Bean cultivation in the orchards of Valencia by Fermín Salcedo and “Sa i fresc” (healthy and fresh), a lecture about biodiversity importance of biological control of pests by Rafael Laborda from the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
12:00 to 13:00 h.: Wine tasting in the Social Centre.
14:30 h.: Award ceremony of the wines contest in the main square. Prize draws by Bars and Restaurant association.
Festival organized by the Association of Residents of Benitachell with the collaboration of Bars and Restaurants Association of Poble Nou de Benitachell, city of Benitachell, city of La Taifa and the Xarxa Llauradora de Comarques Centrals.
