Nabucco is a tragedy opera in four parts composed by Giuseppe Verdi (music) and lyrics by Temistocle Solera, based on the Old Testament and Nabuchodonosor of Francis Cornue and Anicète Bourgeois. Nabucco was composed in a particularly difficult period of the composer’s life when his wife and two children had died and Verdi almost decided not to compose anymore. The libretto of Nabucco came to Verdi almost by accident and the music composition was reluctantly undertaken. Shortly after its premiere, this opera resulted in a masterpiece that captivated Italy.
