Moors and Christians in Benitachell

For another year, the Moors and Christians festival —Moros y Cristianos— arrive to Poble nou de Benitachell, from 8th to 10th July 2011.

Exhibitions of old weapons being used, music and parades will fill the streets of this beautiful town in Costa Blanca north.

Below you will find the calendar of this fiesta, prepared with enthusiasm for anyone who wishes to visit Poble Nou de Benitachell during those dates:

Moros y Cristianos —Moors and Christians— festival in Poble Nou de Benitachell, 2011:

Friday, 8th July:

At 23:30 h, the party will start with a parade where “filaes” (the grous) will progressively take part. This parade will be led by the standard of the Junta Central —Main Committee. As the parade end, the start of the festival will be proclaimed, and all the standards presented. Then, the Moorish Embassy will appear first, followed by the Christian Embassy, on Plaza Nueva, while an impressive show of fireworks (fireworks castle) happens. The party at the Kabilas will follow.

Saturday, 9th July:

At 09:00 h, there will be an exhibition of old weapons (blunderbusses) by the groups accompanied by their music bands.

At 12:00 h, there will be another parade, visiting the Ben-Abiar and Les Pobladores Kábilas.

At 19:30 h, there will be a flowers offering followed by a mass to honour Saint Sebastian, patron saint of Moors and Christians in Benitachell. As this event ends, the bowties will be granted to the music bands of the Town Hall.

From 00:00 h, Kábilas night.

Sunday, 10th July:

At 09:00 h, there will be an exhibition of old weapons (blunderbusses) by the groups accompanied by their music bands.

At 12:00 h, parade; then, a brotherhood will visit the Els Trabuquers Kábila

At 19:30 h: Marching bands parade from the town Hall and great gala parade of both sides: Moors and Christians. The parade will be organized as follows:

  • Standards of the Moors and Christians’ Main Committee.
  • Poble Nou de Benitachell Municipal Music School instrumental band.
  • Christian side.
  • Christian ballet with the “RavalJussà” music band.
  • Filá Les Pobladores.
  • Filá Els Trabuquers.
  • Moorish side
  • Moorish ballet with the “RavalJussà” music band.

There is no doubt this is a comprehensive and entertaining schedule that will keep busy and entertained not only the residents of Poble nou de Benitachell, who live with passion and joy their fiestas, but also for residents of neighbouring towns and visitors: those who repeat year after year and those who come for the first time.
