July is officially the month of the festivals in Benitachell; the Moors and Christians festival has just finished and now the feast to honour Mary Magdalene, patron saint of the town, start.
This year, the festival start on Tuesday 19th July and end on Saturday 30th. That makes 12 intense days with party and religious activities in Benitachell. This is the schedule of events arranged by the “festeros” in Benitachell to celebrate the feat of Mary Magdalene this year:
Tuesday 19th: First day of the Triduum, with a mass at 09:30 h.
Wednesday 20th: Second Triduum day with a mass at 09:30 h and the decoration of the streets to take part in a contest.
Thursday 21: Third Triduum day; introduction to the “festeros” (festival organizers) and music show by the Montercarlo Orchestra.
Friday 22nd: Solemn mass with chants at 12:00 h to honour Mary Magdalene, followed by a procession at 21:00 h, a fireworks show and dance party until sunrise.
Saturday 23rd: “Quintadas” day, a day in which people born in the same year get together in groups. Party all day with music shows and music on the street.
Sunday 24th: Mass to honour Saint Christopher at 12:00 h. A Paellas contest will follow at Mayor de Benitachell Street. Then, at 19:00 h, cavalcade with coaches at 19:00 h and dance party at 00:00 h.
Monday 25th: Children’s play area, a procession to honour Saint James, a fireworks show and a music show.
From Tuesday 26th to Sunday 30th, every night there will be dinners on the street and bullfighting from 19:00 h to 00:00 h every night, as well as “toros embolados” (bulls to which balls of fire are tied to their horns).
This is, without a doubt, a fiesta to enjoy and share with the residents in the region and with the tourist who are visiting this town and Cumbre del Sol.
