This year several municipalities of the Costa Blanca have been working to raise awareness of the “RiuRaus” buildings. These constructions are closely tied to the raing culture of the landscape of the Marina region. The Valencian Riuraus are emblematic and unique worldwide, and from eighteenth to early twentieth centuries were used to convert the Muscat grape in raisins.

Benitachell is one of the municipalities that are working to recover and publicize this traditional construction through the creation of cultural walking routes to places such as the “Riurau of Torra” a private property currently under rehabilitation. The riurau main features are the pillars of rough stone and wooden raisin drying ovens. (more…)
